Cincinnati College Football Preview 2010

The Cincinnati Bearcats are full of confidence after a 12 win season saw them capture the Big East crown.  Their reward was a Sugar Bowl invitation where an angry bunch of Gators were the opponent.  Cincy was blasted by 27 points, ending the season on a sour note.  Change is in store for the Bearcats, however, as head coach Brian Kelly accepted the Notre Dame position.  Butch Jones takes over for Kelly and inherits a talented group of players.  Cincinnati is listed at +500 to win the conference.  View the full conference breakdown in our 2010 Big East football predictions article.

Much can be said about how good the Cincinnati offense was last season.  They outscored opponents by an average of 15 points/game and their lowest output in a game was 24 points (twice).  Even with the departure of QB Tony Pike and WR Mardy Gilyard, the 2010 version of offense will score points in bunches.  QB Zach Collaros is the top dog now that Pike is in the

Ed Bagley’s Top 25 Poll – Week 8 – It’s Teetering at the Top

Alabama, Florida, Iowa, West Virginia and South Carolina all needed every ounce of effort to win games and hopefully retain their national rankings this week. Here is my Top 25 for college football’s Week 8:

1) Alabama (8-0) – The Crimson Tide needed a blocked field goal attempt on the last play of the game to preserve a 12-10 victory over Tennessee. Teams seem to forget who is the defensive coordinator for the Volunteers; he is Monte Kiffin, one of the greatest defensive coordinators in modern football history and the father of Lane Kiffin, the Volunteers’ head coach. Yes, Florida’s victory was weak too; the Crimson Tide stay on top for at least another week.

2) Florida (7-0) – Extended the nation’s longest winning steak to 17 with an unimpressive 29-19 win over Mississippi State. The Gators’ offense seems to be imploding, raising questions about can they hang on. Even though Florida looks beatable, I bet Georgia is not

Video Rating: 4 / 5

Bcs Breakdown

Everything has fallen into place and the Big Ten will get its dream match-up this coming Saturday, when the Michigan Wolverines travel to Columbus to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes. These are two of the four unbeaten teams left in Division-IA and the winner will earn a bid to the BCS Title Game in Glendale, Arizona. These are the top two teams in the polls, computers, and Harris Rankings – all of which comprise the current BCS standings. The Buckeyes will enter this game around a touchdown favorite and have looked more impressive then Michigan from start to finish. This number also reflects Coach Jim Tressel’s recent success against Coach Lloyd Carr. The Buckeye coach has beaten Michigan four times in five tries and is a far cry from what John Copper was when coaching at the Horseshoe.

That being said, lets take a look at the top seven teams in the BCS standing and their likelihood of making it to the championship game on Jan. 8. Teams are

College Football – The Train Has Left the Station, and Michigan State Missed the Departure

College Football – The Train Has Left the Station, and Michigan State Missed the Departure

When the train was ready to pull out of the station this year at East Lansing, the Michigan State University Spartans had a chance to enjoy every stop on their way to an unbeaten season.

They could have run the table at the pool hall. They could have had a scenic and exciting journey, rising right up to become one of the elite teams in the country. In addition to the usual stops on the journey, the Spartans had two of their three biggest hurdles—Michigan and Iowa—at home, and did not even have to face Ohio State because of the Big Ten scheduling rotation.

So much for perfect journeys.

When the train pulled out of the station this year, Michigan State missed the departure for the second stop. After blowing away a Division 1-AA Montana State team 44-3 in their opener at home, there must have been a lot of chest pounding because the Spartans laid an egg against their next opponent at home—Central

Ed Bagley’s Top 25 Poll – Week 12 – Two Favorites Win Big

Ed Bagley’s Top 25 Poll – Week 12 – Two Favorites Win Big

There were 4 upsets of Top 25 teams this week but none of them mattered. What did matter were two favorites winning big with implications as Ohio State topped Michigan and Oregon outlasted Arizona. These events caused changes in my Top 25 Poll. Here is how I see it this week:

1) Alabama (11-0) – The Crimson Tide shut out 1-AA Chattanooga 45-0 to remain unbeaten and on target to face Florida for the SEC title, and a shot at the national championship in a game against Texas. Alabama ends its season this week with a trip to Auburn. I do not see Auburn winning this game.

2) Florida (11-0) – The Gators ripped apart Florida International 62-3 to remain unbeaten. Only visiting Florida State this week remains between the Gators and Alabama playing for a shot to be in the national championship game against Texas.

3) Texas (11-0) – The Longhorns whipped Kansas 51-20 to remain unbeaten and on course to play in the

Abbott and Costello Visit the Ncaa Football Ranks

Don’t you just love this time of year? Wait a minute… This isn’t the usual autumn Saturday in the NCAA ranks. The leftover unbeatens are now dropping from the top 5 as the 6-10 make their push in this merry-go-round with the pollers.

I believe we can determine now that it’s going to be a miracle to see anything over 1 undefeated team from major conferences. So now comes the speculation on who’s going to be there when the time comes to set the bowls, and better yet, who’s coming out on top of this poll?

Just to give you a quick glimpse of my own top 5 (I am a UGA fan, but no bias here)..

#5 USC – Back to their old defensive ways in a 28-0 rout of a major disappointment in an Arizona State team that was supposed to give the Pac-10 teams a run for their money. The 1-loss teams are now beginning to seep into the top 5 as the Trojans get back into title talks.

#4 Florida – After dismantling the LSU Tigers by 30, they are back on their feet

BCS Predictions: 2010 Tennessee Volunteers

BCS Predictions: 2010 Tennessee Volunteers

It’s been a wild two years for the Tennessee Volunteers who in 2008 were preparing for what turned out to be the disastrous final season of the Phil Fulmer era. Last year Lane Kiffin became the “Mouth of the South” as a brash, trash talking recruiting machine that coached the Vols up to a better than expected 7-6 straight up record, with 7 payouts against the spread in college football betting odds and a bowl berth in the Chick-fil-A, which turned out to be a blowout loss to Virginia Tech. The 2010 Tennessee Volunteers are listed at online sportsbooks as a +8000 longshot in 2011 BCS college football picks to win the national championship and 18-1 to win the SEC conference.

After Kiffin did such a great sales job with recruits, he later had to bail by police escort out of Knoxville as he took the vacant job at Southern Cal where he was an assistant previously in the Pete Carroll national champion ship years as a key recruiter. Kiffin said that

SEC Football Predictions 2010

The SEC is college football’s premier conference with powerhouses such as Florida and Alabama leading the way. In this article, I have made my predictions on how I see the SEC playing out this year. If you would like to see my predictions for all the college football conferences, make sure you check out my 2010 college football predictions preview.

SEC East Predictions
1. Florida Gators – The Gators won’t have one of college football’s all-time greats under center this season, but they still have the most talent in their side of the league. QB John Brantley has big shoes to fill, but he will benefit from playing behind one of the best lines in the league and having a number of talented weapons at his disposal.

2. Georgia Bulldogs – Georgia finished last season strong with a big win over in-state rival Georgia Tech and a blowout of Texas A&M in the Independence Bowl. The Dawgs won four of their last five overall, giving coach
