Ohio State V. Florida: the Bcs Got It Right!!

In 1992 Alabama won the National Championship. Could they repeat in 1993? Not quite, mainly due to injuries but also a team that lost alot of muscle and speed. Still the Crimson Tide finished 9-3-1 and faced a game UNC team. Bama prevailed 24-10 under the quick feet of QB Brian Burgdorf.

Ohio State V. Florida: the Bcs Got It Right!!

Ohio State v. Florida: The BCS Got it Right!

Much of the country is in the midst of the first real cold snap of the season. But you’d never know it from the hot air coming out of Michigan. Lots of upset people blowing a lot of steam over nothing.

The final computer and human rankings were thrown into the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) cauldron and low and behold a live Gator was pulled out. By the way, it was the human voters who saved the day because the BCS computers had the Gators and Wolverines dead even.

I don’t know what the computers were thinking, but anyone who saw Florida come from behind to beat Arkansas 38-28 Saturday night to win the SEC Championship knows what I’m talking about. What a thrilling game? Florida showed its tremendous team speed, talent, and ability to make big plays when it needed to. Talk about going for it? How about that 4th and 10 fake punt-from its own 15 yard line while trailing in the 3rd

Calvin Johnson : 2007 Draft Day Picks

Born on September 25, 1985 in Tyrone, Georgia, Calvin Johnson has grown into one of the best college football wide receivers of all time. His rare combination of speed, size, strength, and athletic ability make him difficult to guard no matter who is lining up opposite him. Johnson stands 6 foot 5 inches tall, and weighs close to 240 pounds. To go along with this he has 4.3 speed, and a vertical leap of more than 47 inches!

Johnson started his football career at Sandy Creek High School. As a senior he put up average numbers, but not anything that would blow you away. During his senior season Johnson pulled in 40 balls totaling 736 yards. He added a modest eight touchdowns on top of this. His career high school numbers were 80 catches for 1,479 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Despite not having the best stats among high school receivers, college coaches came from all over to see what Johnson had to offer. Of course, the main reason for this was

2010 NCAA Football Predictions

With spring practice in the books, it’s time to start making your 2010 college football predictions.  I give mine below with the teams I predict will finish in the Top-10, along with a few teams just outside of it as well as my national champion.  If you want to beat the college football lines this season, then be sure to check out NCAA football picks to guide you to monster profits in 2010.

Top-10 Teams for 2010-11 Season:

1.)  Alabama – I smell a repeat with the pieces Nick Saban has in place.  It took this excellent college football coach only three years to bring a title back to Crimson Tide country, and he is primed to win another this year.  That’s because all of his playmakers are back on offense, from QB Greg McElroy to the RB tandem of Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson, all the way to WR’s Julio Jones and Marquis Maze.  This offense should be even more explosive than it was a year ago.  Only two starters return from the No. 2 defense in

College Football – Last Season’s Final Statistics Show How the Nation’s Top Five Teams Can Be Beat

It is not often when the coaches and the media agree on their opinion of who should be in the preseason Top 25 college football polls, but this year at least their Top 5 picks are mirror images—Florida (1), Texas (2), Oklahoma (3), Southern California (4) and Alabama (5).

Of a possible 60 first-place votes in the media’s AP Top 25 Poll, Florida collected 58 votes and Texas 2, setting a record (96+%) for the most first-place votes since the poll was first started in 1950, long before there were ever Bowl Championship Series (BCS) games.

Florida is such an overwhelming favorite that one might think there is no need to play the games this year, since the Gators will probably run the table (go unbeaten). This, of course, is sheer nonsense.

Florida won the National Championship for the 2006 and 2008 seasons and, if it repeats during 2009, the Gators would become only the second team to do so since Nebraska won the

NCAA College Football: History of the Miami Hurricanes

The University of Miami Football team is recognized as one of the top programs in the nation. This is for good reason as well. The Hurricanes have a history of success. They have won 5 National Titles over the years and have shown that they can field a solid team year in and year out.

Over the history of the University they have managed to win 64 percent of their games. The record for the school over the years has been 552-307-19. They have an interesting history of fielding some of the most talented players in the nation at a very high rate. This may not show in the relatively low total of 5 National Championships, but it does show in the incredibly high total of 35 Consensus All-Americans.

The team is specifically recognized for its incredible athleticism. Florida is known for being one of the best areas to recruit in the Nation. This has contributed to the success of the Hurricanes, Gators and Seminoles over the years. The

The Champions of College Football

The Champions of College Football

The champions of College Football’s two most dominant conferences will be determined this Saturday as the SEC and Big 12 both showcase their championship games. If that wasn’t enough reason to log on and bet at MalvernSports, the outcomes of both of these games will have serious BCS National Championship implications.

First up in the SEC, despite their flawless 12-0 record and #1 National ranking, the Alabama Crimson Tide are currently 9.5 point underdogs as they take on the explosive and fourth ranked Florida Gators. This lofty spread is due to the fact that Tim Tebow and his fellow Gators have been chewing up their competition as their average margin of victory is over 37 points per game in their 11 victories. Bama backers shouldn’t mail it in just yet as the Tide covered each of their last five meetings with Florida.

In the high scoring Big 12, the #3 ranked Oklahoma Sooners and their 11-1 record meet up with the 9-3 Missouri

Mark Ingram wins the first Heisman Trophy in Alabama?s History

Mark Ingram received the Heisman Trophy in what has been the closest vote since the trophy was first awarded back in December 9th 1935. Runner up, Toby Gerhart, from Stanford University took second place by only 28 points and 5 first-place votes. The twenty two year-old sophomore from Alabama University was quite overwhelmed, and had to take a couple seconds to get it together before giving out his acceptance speech. The 5-10, 212 pound running back turned tearful during Saturday night’s award ceremony in New York City. The Heisman Memorial Trophy Award is given annually to the most outstanding collegiate football player each year. While it is not the only award given out to the “best player” of the year, none of the other awards are either as prestigious or receive as much media attention as the Heisman. Before Florida Gators’ Tim Tebow won his trophy in 2007, no other sophomore had ever received the prestigious award. But it seems like Tebow changed the tide

Florida

The Swamp is known as one of the loudest stadiums in college football, and all sports for the matter. The Swamp, legally known as Ben Hill Griffin stadium is home to the Florida Gators, who in recent years have become a national powerhouse in the college football world. They have become arguably the most dominant college football team over the last 15 years and are perennial national champion favorites.

Florida was a respectable team from its early beginnings in 1906; however they never gained the national respect that the school from Gainesville had craved since their entrance into the Southeastern conference in 1932. However, that all changed in 1990 when the team hired former Heisman Trophy quarterback and alumnus Steve Spurrier to lead the team to the dominance they have craved.

Little did Florida know the monster they created when they hired the visor-launching Spurrier to take over their program. Spurrier turned the

College Football Week 12 – Ohio State and Oregon Earn Big Victories With Big Implications

Copyright © 2009 Ed Bagley

In a great example of too little too late, there were 4 upsets of AP Top 25 teams in college football’s 12th week and none of them had any real impact. On the other hand, two favorites won big time road games with big implications as Ohio State buried Michigan 21-10, and Oregon held off a very pesky Arizona team, 44-41.

Last week the 9th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (10-2) beat Iowa to earn their first trip to the Rose Bowl in 13 years. By beating Michigan (5-7 and not bowl eligible), Ohio State won the Big Ten title outright with a 7-1 mark, losing only at Purdue. The Buckeyes led Michigan 21-10 after three quarters and both teams played a scoreless 4th quarter.

The 11th-ranked Oregon Ducks (9-2) were in trouble mid-way through the last quarter when Arizona took a 31-24 lead on a 71-yard screen pass from Nick Foles to Juron Criner, and then the Wildcats had possession and could have won the game by running out the
